Sheep win the consolation championship in their 7th Make-A-Wish tournament

April 28-30, 2006

Colorado Springs, CO

Honnen Ice Arena

The Sheep took the 1st seed in pool play, had the second best record and allowed the fewest goals of the tournament.  They lost the semi final game 0-1 to Japan-Am in a nerve racking OT.  The only other team to score on the Sheep was Team Fogg in the consolation semi final game.  No Bull was the only undefeated team and won the championship 4-1 against Japan-Am.

The Party Sheep had a great time partying and meeting the rest of the teams at the bar.  The hotel hot tub was a hit, the awards ceremony was super fun as usual and the weather was excellent.  Japan had their best finish ever, which was great to see.  The Sheep were a little banged up by the end of this one.  Sherri sat out the final game with a knee injury, Al took a stick to the back, Matt's side injury kept him from sprinting and shooting in the last 3 games and Brian took a nice shot to the nose in the final game (we're all hoping it isn't broken).  But all in all, we managed to have fun, win some games, raise some money for Make-A-Wish and hang out with some great people.

Pictures to come...

Games

Pool Play #1 vs. Team Black, Fri 6:00 pm.  Sheep win 5-0.

The Sheep controlled this game from the start.  Team Black tried to dump and chase and with Al's ball control, that strategy just didn't work.  Brian had 2 goals, Jessi and Matt had one and Jen ended her scoring drought with one of her own!

Pool Play #2 vs. Beauty & the Beast, Sat 11:20 am.  Sheep win 8-0.

Jessi's 100th game as a Sheep!  Nice work!!!   This was the scariest game of the weekend - with lots of out of control players.  Ann took a nice one into the boards from a guy about 8 inches taller and 100 pounds heavier.  We were glad to get out of this game in one piece.  Brian had 4 goals, Jessi had 3 and Ann and Matt had the last 2.  Val got her first assist as a Sheep!

Bracket Game #1 seed vs. #8 seed Sweepers, Sat 4:15 pm.  Sheep win 3-0.

The Sweepers played us very tough.  They hustled to the lose balls and they got a few good looks on Al.  They almost scored the first goal of the game on a breakaway that trickled past the pipe.  Jessi scored 2 and Chad got the 3rd goal.

Upper Semi-Final vs. Japan-Am, Sun 9:55 am.  Japan win 1-0 in OT.

The Sheep held Japan-Am to no goals during regulation.  The Shepherd went out of the game at half time with a pulled side muscle.  OT was not to the Sheep's advantage because Japan-Am could play their top 3 guys.  Greg got a nice opportunity and shot a long one into the net for the only goal of the game.  Congrats to Japan for making it to the championship game for the first time!  Great game!

Lower Semi-Final vs. Team Fogg, Sun 11:45 am.  Sheep win 3-2.

Sherri went out of this game with a knee injury - so the Sheep were down to 9 players.  Team Fogg was quick and determined to score.  They blocked a punt from Al for their first goal.  Yes, a punt.  :)  Their second goal was a foot deflection from the point.  Jessi had 2 goals and Chad had the last one on our power play.  Team Fog pulled their goalie with a couple minutes left and put the pressure on.  But the Sheep held up for the 3-2 win.

Lower Final vs. Team Black, Sun 1:35 pm.  Sheep win 2-0.

Team Black was considerably better in this game than the first time we played them.  They had better passing, they covered the Sheep's points on defense and their goalie played a great game.  Chad and Jessi actually had the first two goals within the first 2 minutes of the game.  This allowed the Sheep to play a controlled safe game.  Brian somehow took a stick to his nose under his half shield.  The fact that he broke the nose in softball only a year and a half ago was enough to give us all a scare.  Hopefully he didn't re-break it.
